Traditional dental restoratives, or fillings, may include silver, gold or composite. Newer dental fillings include ceramic and plastic compounds that mimic the appearance of natural teeth. These compounds, often called composite resins, were originally used on the front teeth where a natural appearance is important. However, over the years, technology has gotten better and better and now composite (tooth colored) fillings are great for back teeth also.
